When Alicia first reached out to me she had plans of having a home birth with her midwife and doula. Things took a drastic change when she developed preeclampsia.
Alicia and Grant made their way to the hospital on August 22nd to start the induction process. After countless hours of monitoring and lack of sleep, Alicia was put on Pitocin the next morning.
Grant kept in touch with me each step of the way and by 1PM I arrived at the hospital. Grant met me in the waiting room and updated me. Alicia was trying to get some rest.
About an hour later, Grant comes back to update me and lets me know that Alicia received an epidural but it only worked on one side so she was waiting for the anesthesiologist to come re-administer it. As soon as he made it back to the room, Alicia’s water broke.
I instantly knew it was time. I made my way back to the room and Alicia was couldn’t decide if it was time to push.
Her nurse came back into the room a few minutes later and Alicia couldn’t fight her urge to push. It was time. Her midwife came rushing in and it was go-time.
With a few quick pushes, Story’s head appeared. Alicia reached down to feel her babe and her motivation to push became stronger. She was minutes away from welcoming her newest addition.
As Story’s head popped out, the midwife noticed her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck. The midwife quickly unraveled and instructed that Alicia begin to push again.
Two pushes later, and Story Capri Cardwell made her entrance on August 23rd at 3:38PM weighing 7lb 6oz and 19 inches long.
Mom and Dad spent some time bonding with Story.
Shortly after Story’s arrival her big brother, Stoney came to meet her. He was a little hesitant but eventually came around.
