Abigail’s Birth Story

Abigail’s Birth Story

On Tuesday, May 21st at 12:38 AM I get a message that baby Abigail was on her way! Whitney had plans of having baby Abigail at a birthing center but as we all know, birth is so unpredictable. Whitney was passing meconium and had to be admitted to the hospital.

Contractions during birth

At 3:50 PM, she was just sitting at 3cm but her midwife finished breaking her water in hopes of speeding up her birth. Because this was her second baby, I decided to head on over to the hospital. I arrived at 4:50 PM and there had still been no changes.

Her contractions continued to get stronger but there were no changes.

Baby Abigail just refused to enter this world.

With each contraction, nurses noticed that Abigails heart rated would drop. Nurses came rushing in to try and find a birthing position that Abigail liked.

After laboring for a little more than 20 hours, Whitney opted for Stadol to try and relieve some of the discomfort. After a little more time passes, she opted for an epidural.

She was finally able to get some relief and squeeze in mini naps between her contractions.

Around 5 AM, she felt the contractions getting strong and closer. She felt constant pressure and asked her midwife to come in and check her. Baby Abigail was ready for her big debut!

Meconium Birth in Annapolis, MD

On May 22, 2019 at 5:51 AM, Abigail entered the world. Because of the meconium, Abigail was taken immediately to get checked out by the NICU nurses. She barely made a peep but was perfectly healthy. Daddy got to check her out first and cut a snippet of her umbilical cord.

Then Mommy got to hold and nurse her precious little one.

Meet Abigal May Dills. Weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces.

Whitney and Johnny experienced secondary infertility after their first daughter. Seeing then become parents again brought so much joy to everyone around them!

I’m so honored to have been a part of documenting their birth story.
